Platts reported that South African logistics group Transnet will spend $37.8 billion on capital projects, such as increasing the volume of manganese, as part of a seven-year Market Demand Strategy.
Mining Weekly reported that Transnet Port Terminals has reconfirmed that South Africa's manganese export facility will be relocated to the Port of Ngqura by 2015/16.

The price of manganese is a good barometer for the health of an economy primarily because of its use in steel, a prime component of infrastructure projects. The price has moved lower, but remains stable. Also, improvements to South African railways are planned to meet new demand from new, massive manganese projects.
Railways Africa reported that Transnet is still looking at options to increase rail capacity to handle manganese shipments.
